The staff of U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) has uploaded a video to his You Tube account in which he talks about his recovery after a stroke left him with partial paralysis. It’s the first time Kirk has gone public following his stroke in January. In the video he says “I’m walking again,” and goes on to describe the intense rehab he has gone through. The video shows Kirk’s progress as he walks on a treadmill at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Kirk was allowed to return to his home last week. In his three-minute video message, Kirk thanks everyone for their patience as he recovers and says he is looking forward to getting back on the Senate floor. “I want to thank the people of Illinois for granting me the honor to represent them in the United States Senate,” Kirk said. “I can’t wait to go back to work, to vote to spend less and borrow less and tax less to help fix our economy.” Kirk is in an out-patient walking study for stroke patients that has been described as an “intensive program.
