U.S. Sen. Mark S. Kirk (R-Ill.) isn’t expecting an upset in next year’s Senate race. Kirk believes that U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is “in good shape” to be elected to a fourth term in the Senate. “I would say that he’s been pretty solid, and has always done right by me to build a good bipartisan team for Illinois,” Kirk said. Currently, businessman Doug Truax is the only Republican who has committed to challenging Durbin, while State Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) is considering entering the race.

While Kirk says politicians should have to work to keep their seat, he doesn’t foresee anyone knocking off Durbin. “Long road to knock a sitting Senate incumbent,” Kirk said. In Durbin’s three Senate election victories, he has never garnered less than 55 percent of the vote.
