Combining the Illinois Treasurer and Comptroller's offices may be a dead issue. After passing out of the state Senate, the House bill got stuck in committee, where it appears destined to remain. Supporters are pointing fingers at the Democratic leadership for throwing up roadblocks.

Critics say they worry about all the state’s finances being handled by just one office. They point to the recent scandal in Dixon, where the town’s single fiscal person is accused of embezzling 53 million dollars.
