A Kampsville man is in jail after he allegedly violated the terms of his release as he awaited trial on sexual assault charges. 57 year old Michael "Mike" Dean was awaiting a court date on charges in Calhoun County of sexually assaulting several men. He was arrested last Friday in DuQuion for allegedly being in a tavern, a violation of his bond.
As the Big Z reported back in January, investigators say Dean drugged three young men on different occasions and had sex with them while they were unconscious. While the victims are all from Kampsville, the alleged crimes happened in Missouri. Calhoun County Sheriff Bill Heffington told the Big Z at the time it was shortly after he was notified of an incident in Normal, Illinois, in which a man alleged Dean tried to drug and sexually assault him that he began an investigation locally. Dean has now been charged in Missouri with three counts of Kidnapping and three counts of Sodomy in the First Degree, which the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Dunklin County, Missouri, says is punishable by up to life in prison.
