With a recent donation of $3,000 by the Junior League of Greater Alton, more underprivileged youth of the area now have more access to premium memberships at the Riverbender.com Community Center. The group presented the funds at a recent Middle School Dance. The goal of the fundraising project was to provide a safe, drug free environment for Alton area youth who could not otherwise afford it.
Junior League Board Member and project co-chair Lori Artis says many area businesspeople stepped up to make this happen, including the community center itself.
The generosity was reciprocated by Riverbender, which in turn offered to provide premier memberships to this group of selected students. The premier memberships provide the students with unlimited access to after-school activities and the social events at the Center, something which would ordinarily cost more than $1,000 per member.
