The state of Illinois has a matter of days to pay into the Service Employees International Union Health Fund. That’s according to a St. Clair County circuit judge’s ruling filed before the Thanksgiving holiday. The order, which was posted online by SEIU Healthcare Illinois, says the state must pay what it is owed through October and continue monthly payments to the health fund.
A press release from SEIU says the state owes the health fund $1.5 million from the previous fiscal year and nearly $12 million for the current fiscal year. The governor’s office says the state is in the process of complying with the court order and that payments could not be made due to a lack of appropriation authority.
