A Madison County Associate Judge has been appointed to fill a seat on the Circuit Court. Judge James Hackett will take over the post recently vacated by Ann Callis, who resigned last month to run for Congress. Hackett was selected to the Third Judical Circuit by the Illinois Supreme Court upon the recommendation of Justice Lloyd Karmeier.
Hackett will serve until the next election, November 2014, in which he would have to run for office. Judge Hackett was appointed an associate judge in 1995, and has been dealing primarily with felony cases since 2000. Prior to joining the court, he was in private practice in Alton and was also a special public defender for Madison County.
