After more than six decades in business, Jerseyville's Discount House is getting ready to close its doors for good. The retail store that sits at the corner of Route 109 and State street will begin it's going out of business sale today. Owners Dianne and Gene Devening acquired the business in October of 2013, but say the changing times of internet shopping have led them to this decision.
Sometimes referred to as “The House of A Thousand Bargains,” the Discount House has been a staple in the retail market for Jerseyville and surrounding area, where buyers could find items like household and office supplies, décor, food and beverage varieties, lawn ornaments, tobacco products, and gifts. But it is possibly most known for its wide variety of hunting and fishing supplies. Discount House will offer sales, auctions, and prizes as they work to sell off their inventory. The plan is to close by the end of the year.
