The only movie theater in Jersey County may be given a new life at some point.  The Stadium Theater in Jerseyville was closed just before Thanksgiving by its parent company, AMC, but there is apparently at least one offer on the table to purchase the building and bring motion pictures back to the Tri Counties.

Published reports indicate the cost of the building has come down from around $750,000 to $200,000.  That could potentially open up the pool of potential buyers, and return an affordable night out to the city, according to Allen Gilmore of the Jersey County Business Association.

Gilmore comments

AMC took over the Stadium after purchasing a number of former Kerasotes Theater Chain locations in 2010, but has been closing some of the older locations it acquired.  The Marvel Theater in Carlinville recently went through a change of ownership, and there is hope from many in the Jerseyville business community that a similar revival will take place in this situation.
