A suspect in at least three burglaries is free in part because of his luck in the timing of the charges being filed. Police say 30-year-old Preston M. Kirby of the 1,000 block of North Liberty Street in Jerseyville robbed the Jerseyville American Legion, Mulligan's West and The Diner. He was charged with the burglary at the American Legion before the charges were filed in the other two cases.
His lawyer requested a reduction in bond when the initial charges were filed from the original $100,000 to $30,000. A judge reduced bond to $50,000, and he was released the day before the charges in the Mulligan's West and Diner cases were filed. He is due back in court at 9am Monday. He is charged with felony burglary, and felony theft in each case, and felony criminal damage to property in two of the three.
