January weather was cool and dry in Illinois. The statewide average temperature last month came in at 25.4 degrees. That’s one degree below normal and the 53rd coldest January on record in Illinois, says State Climatologist Jim Angel.

Statewide average precipitation for January was just over 1 ½ inches, which is a half-inch below normal. Angel says snowfall totals varied widely throughout the state.
