A woman is behind bars in Madison County after an Illinois State Police Trooper found more than one-and-a-half-million dollars in her car. Sixty-two-year-old Carole Galvez of Arizona was stopped Saturday on I-55 for improper lane usage and having an illegal license plate cover. That's when the trooper discovered more than one-point-five-million dollars in cash, packed in plastic bags.
Galvez is being held on a charge of felony money laundering, and is being held in the Madison County Jail. State's Attorney Tom Gibbons says authorities will attempt to have the money forfeited, and the money could then be divided among the law enforcement community for various activities and improvements. Galvez is being held on $500,000 bond and could face 4-15 years in prison if found guilty.
