Ominous skies brought a deluge of rain, and in some cases damaging winds to the region as the remnants of Hurricane Isaac pounded Illinois and Missouri on Friday. Several inches of rain is being reported around the area, and at least two unconfirmed tornadoes were reported in our listening area. Those were spotted near Fieldon and Carrollton during the afternoon.
The silver lining is the heavy precipitation should help to ease drought conditions. The wind will also pick up, but isn't expected to reach speeds seen down on the gulf coast. State climatologist Jim Angel says having a tropical storm move into Illinois is fairly rare.
Angel says most of Illinois should get some rain this weekend, with Central Illinois expected to pick up the most precipitation.
