If you are one of the many people dealing with storm damage, a spokesman from the Illinois Department of Insurance wants you to know what you may be dealing with. Hundreds if not thousands of insurance claims will be filed following last Friday's tornadoes and straight line winds ravaged the area. But you may be in for a surprise in some cases when you call your insurance company.
One of the more common complaints arises when a neighbor's tree falls onto your house, according to Mark Terry.
He reminds you should perform repairs immediately following damage, and keep all receipts from the work. Also, if a contractor offers to fix your house after a major storm and save you the cost of the deductible, the company is breaking the law. This is a practice that is usually more prevalent after a big storm.
