Illinois continues to work on an insurance exchange to comply with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Illinois is moving ahead with plans to create an insurance exchange for people who would be covered under the Affordable Care Act. The state must have an exchange in place by January 2014.

“We’re going to be having people come forward, probably at least a million or more people in Illinois, that will be under the health care coverage opportunity,” Quinn said. Quinn says the state’s economy is stronger when Illinoisans are healthy. The exchange will be an efficient, centralized marketplace that will offer a choice of affordable, high-quality health insurance plans to individuals and small businesses. Plan enrollments are to begin Oct. 1, 2013 with a coverage effective date of Jan. 1, 2014.
