A man housed in the Madison County has been found guilty of killing another inmate earlier this year and sentenced to 50 years in prison. 32-year-old Terrance Lee was charged in the beating death of 61-year-old John Newsome, who was also an inmate at the time he was killed.
Authorities say Lee and Newsome apparently got into a confrontation over television channels in a day room inside the Madison County Jail last summer. Surveillance video shows Lee becoming aggressive toward Newsome, punching him multiple times. Newsome later died of his injuries. At the time of the incident, Lee was being held in connection with a murder and robbery in 2014. He agreed to plea guilty after prosecutors set 30 years as his sentence for the murder charge and 20 years for a previous armed robbery charge. He will not get credit for time served.
