Four people were airlifted from three separate accidents around the area over the holiday weekend. Accidents were reported on Sunday in West Alton, Missouri another south of Medora in Macoupin County, and a third reported near Otterville in Jersey County early Monday morning.
Sunday morning just after 10:00, two people were injured in the two vehicle accident on Highway 67 at Red School House Road in West Alton. The Missouri Highway Patrol says 72 year old James Ricks of Bethalto was airlifted from the scene to St. Louis University Hospital. The other driver, 49 year old Alonzo Johnson of St. Louis was not injured, but a 12 year old passenger in the car suffered minor injuries requiring treatment at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Illinois State Police report an accident Sunday just after 12 Noon on Illinois 267 at FS Road south of Medora. The driver of a southbound motorcycle was unable to stop in time when a vehicle in front of him stopped to make a turn and turned the motorcycle on its side, ejecting both passengers. Injured were 42 year old Matthew Kahl and 40 year old Karri Kahl, both of Medora. Both were airlifted from the scene to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment. Illinois State Police also investigated a rollover accident on Otterville Road near Pumpstation Road in Jersey County early Monday morning. Injured in the single vehicle accident around 2:10am was 19 year old Trevor Carpenter of Jerseyville. He was airlifted from the scene to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis with serious injuries. Police say alcohol may have played a factor in that crash.
