Another judgment in the case of a deadly 2007 crash, caused by an Illinois State Police trooper. Matt Mitchell admits he was speeding in his patrol car while talking on the phone and e-mailing when he crashed into a car, killing two sisters from Collinsville on I-64. He then hit another car driven by Christine Marler, who was eight-months pregnant at the time.

She and her husband were both injured. The Illinois Court of Claims yesterday awarded them 700-thousand dollars for their injuries and emotional anguish. That money is coming from the state of Illinois. The family of the two sisters who were killed was earlier awarded eight-million dollars. Former trooper Mitchell received probation for reckless homicide and reckless driving charges.
