Keep your baby safe! That’s the message from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. October is Infant Safe Sleep Awareness Month. The awareness campaign aims to educate new parents about the proper way to put their infant to sleep. The department wants new parents to follow the ABC’s of putting their child to sleep.

A - Always put your baby to sleep alone.
B - Always place your baby on his or her back to sleep.
C – Always place your baby in a crib.
Other tips for new parents this month include not smoking around infants, keeping your infant’s crib in the same room as the parents’ bed, and always trying to have someone else awake for late night feedings so mom doesn’t fall asleep with the infant.
