“I think the jury will stay out for a while,” he said. “I think people that were committed to Gov. Pawlenty, and there were a lot of really hard-core Pawlenty people, I think they’re just going to take a step back and take a look, but any of these candidates from across the board are fiscal conservatives, so we have a lot of places to go, the Pawlenty people.”
The field appears to be narrowed to a Big Three of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, but Brady says he won’t dismiss any of the lesser candidates with Election Day so far off. Republican county chairmen will meet inSpringfieldon Thursday. Brady says they won’t be discussing presidential candidates much. The big event coming up is theIllinoisstraw poll on Nov. 5, one year before Election Day, to determine the sense of Illinois Republican primary voters. They hope the candidates will come here and vie for support.
