Corporations are people, too, when it comes to the right to make campaign contributions. That’s the gist of the Citizens United ruling, which says campaign donations count as speech. Illinois Public Interest Research Group wants that U. S. Supreme Court decision overturned. PIRG’s Maggie Galka says it has put too much influence in the hands of the mega-donors.

“While some may deny that these large contributions influence voting,” says Springfield Alf. Joe McMenamin, “this is hard to believe, when they are so large and out of proportion to what regular citizens are able to contribute.” McMenamin was among local officials joining Galka in front of the Lincoln statue outside the Capitol Tuesday to announce their effort.
