The Illinois Department of Transportation is studying increased traffic in the Village of Godfrey since the completion of Illinois 255. The Alton Godfrey Transportation Study will move into the next phase in 2014 and will identify corridors of congestion and potential ways to relieve the pressure. While nothing is set in stone, an IDOT engineer anticipates action to alleviate congestion will be taken at some point.

Geldert says IDOT is already seeing an increase in congestion and traffic crashes in the study area, which she says is a sign there are problems that need to be addressed. Geldert says the entire process remains in the early stages, but the public can follow through a link below. She anticipates more public meetings in the new year.
