Motorists throughout the area will need to keep an eye out for construction crews and the Illinois Department of Transportation continues to work on several projects along roadways throughout the Riverbend and metro-east.
Several projects are either scheduled to wrap up this fall while others are just now beginning. Among those wrapping up is a rather extensive rehabilitation project on the new Chain of Rocks Bridge according to IDOT Engineer Barry Gibbs.
As that project wraps up, further east along Interstate 270 IDOT crews will continue work on the new bridge that crosses the Chain of Rocks Canal. Gibbs says that project is about 57-percent complete but is on schedule to be finished by next summer
Gibbs says there are also a number of projects that are just starting including microsurfacing along Illinois 255 from New Poag Road to Route 143 and the microsurfacing of Interstate 270 from Route 3 to the I-55/70 crossover
Gibbs says that traffic delays will vary from project to project and that you can always check the IDOT website for the latest road closures and work zone information.
