Boat at your own risk; that’s the warning from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as water levels on Illinois’ lakes and rivers continue to drop. The consistently declining water levels have made areas in some lakes and rivers nearly impassable by boat – and are even impacting getting your boat in to the water.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources Spokesman Chris McCloud says low water levels coupled with unfamiliar angles of entry can make boat ramps dangerous. His advice; if you’re going to a DNR run lake then call ahead to check the condition of boat ramps.

The state agency does not have any immediate plans to close any, but they could if conditions worsen. McCloud says there isn’t much sign of relief from this drought for another month.
