The Illinois Department of Employment Security will close it’s East Alton office later this year. The shut down is part of a federal cost savings plan for Fiscal Year 2016 that will also including closing similar IDES offices in Bloomington and Chicago Heights. The East Alton office is located on West St. Louis Avenue.
The federal Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) calls for consolidation of offices, and this move will save about $2-million in lease and salary costs. The act also calls for more so-called one-stop centers that are co-located with its partners in the local workforce innovation areas, so the stand-alone offices are being closed. The close is set for sometime in mid-2016 and the state has been in contact with the AFS-CME union to discuss the transition.
