Some residents of Alton’s Hunterstown neighborhood are going to be eligible for funding to rehabilitate their homes. The program, which is a combined effort of the city, Madison County Community Development and the Justine Petersen not-for-profit housing and redevelopment corporation, is now accepting applications for owner-occupied homes.
Madison County Community Development Block Grant Planner Lisa Mersinger tells The Big Z they are providing a maximum of $10,000 for home rehabilitation in the form of a five-year, zero percent forgivable loan with deferred payments until the date of forgiveness or the transfer of ownership.

The Alton Home Emergency Rehabilitation Program is designed to preserve homes in strategic parts of the city and stabilize property values. This is different from a weatherization program that targeted the same area earlier this summer. For more information, call 618-501-1555.
