The second half of the firearm deer hunting season begins Thursday in Illinois, and hunters are urged to be extra cautions. Firearm hunters will be taking to the woods Thursday through Sunday, and Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris Young asks hunters to practice gun safety and to wear bright orange to make sure they are seen by other hunters.

Hunters harvested nearly 58,000 deer during the first weekend of the firearm season. That's an increase of more than 6000 over last year.
