The Illinois Department of Transportation is gearing up for demolition work as part of the process of bringing High Speed Rail to Illinois. The April bid letting will set the stage for demolition of a series of buildings on Highway 67 / 111 about halfway between Godfrey and Brighton.
IDOT's RuAnna Stumpf tells The Big Z those buildings affected are near the intersection with David Lane.

Six residences will be demolished, as well as a storage facility and Mohawk's Pub. Over the summer she says the work should be in full effect, along with utility relocation. Highway construction will start around the first of September if all goes according to plan, according to Stumpf. Track grading work has already begun near Brighton.
