Should lawmakers take a pay cut? State Representative Dwight Kay (pictured) and many of his GOP counterparts think so. The Glen Carbon Republican is calling on the House Majority Leader to release a trio of bills for debate on the House floor, one of which would cut salaries.House Bil 3363 would also prohibit a cost of living adjustment for members of the General Assembly.
Kay reminded his fellow members of the House that Governor Quinn said in his budget address a few weeks ago that tough decisions would have to be made.
Kay says not only will the bill cut costs, but will be a show of good faith to lawmakers' constituents. He is also asking for the release of bills that would deal with workers compensation insurance; that would implement a 72 hour review period of the budget before a vote could be taken; and that would take away the stipend for committee chairmen and vice chairmen.
