The new House minority leader in Illinois got his political start being outraged at corruption and abuse at Triton College. “The board members had awarded themselves American Express Gold Cards,” says Minority Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs), who won one of two Triton College trustee openings among 12 candidates. His first job upon being sworn in was to abolish those credit card accounts. “From there, I realized, you know what? If you run for office, and you feel strongly about something, you can accomplish things.”
