Two women are facing charges after police caught them stealing items bound for the Community Hope Center in Cottage Hills.  Alton authorities received a tip that a theft had taken place in the past and detectives observed a truck belonging to the food pantry parked outside a home in the 400 block of Augusta on Wednesday, and items were being taken into the home.

Detectives made two arrests yesterday, charging 45-year-old Jerri A. Jones (pictured, top) of the 7,300 block of Montcaire Avenue in Godfrey and 64-year-old Betty C. Jones (pictured, bottom) of the 400 block of Augusta Street in Alton with felony theft over $500.  The women were apparently working as volunteers for the center and were supposed to pick up donations at the St. Louis Food Bank and deliver them to the pantry in Cottage Hills.

Golike comments

Alton Police Lieutenant Scott Golike says investigators reportedly found a large number of food and beverage items inside the residence, but since some of the items had not been opened, those will be forwarded to the Community Hope Center for distribution to those in need.
