A homeless man is accused in a string of recent burglaries in a rural section of Madison County.  35 year old James L. Stufflebean was taken into custody last Friday after police say forensic evidence pointed them in his direction.   At least a half dozen burglaries in rural Edwardsville, Alhambra, and New Douglas have been reported since the end of June.

Madison County Sheriff's Department Chief of Detectives Captain Mike Dixon says it was old fashioned police work that broke this case:

Stufflebean was also wanted on outstanding warrants in Jersey County and St. Louis County.  Dixon says they have been successful in recovering a number of items so far and continue their investigation.  Stufflebean is being held for residential burglary in lieu of $150,000 bond at the Madison County Jail.
