The “Stand Up Illinois” week of protests continues with health care workers represented by the union SEIU rallying at a Springfield senior high-rise Wednesday morning. Bliss White, director of a Carlinville-based agency which receives state money to put home health care aides into clients’ residences, urged members and senior citizens to call their lawmakers and protest possible budget cuts.

She also touted a “Walk a Mile in Our Shoes” event, which invites legislators to shadow the workers to see exactly what they do. White and the workers agree that the need for these services will only grow: “The baby boomers are becoming seniors. It’s just starting, and in Montgomery County, the nursing homes are full. The assisted living (centers) are full. The supportive living (centers) are full.”
