The card drive for military personnel serving overseas is under way. The drive is for holiday greeting cards hand-made by students across Illinois which are sent to places overseas where there are U.S. military personnel.
Illinois Veterans Affairs Director Rodrigo Garcia says they’re still out there. “They might be less visible this holiday season, as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan recede, but they are still serving in the areas like Afghanistan and Iraq and Korea and Liberia and Germany,” he said at a ceremony to kick off the card drive, in which individual schools can participate.

The cards are particularly destined to military and veterans’ hospitals, for the soldiers and the staff. In years past, both as lieutenant governor and governor, Pat Quinn has delivered the cards in person to troops from Illinois.
