A former state lawmaker is returning to Springfield. Among Tuesday’s winners is Jay C. Hoffman, a former Democratic state representative from Collinsville whose 10-term career was interrupted by the 2010 victory of State Rep. Dwight Kay (R-Glen Carbon). Kay Tuesday scored an unofficial win by 327 votes, while Hoffman also won his election.

“I’ve always worked across party lines, and I’ll continue to do that,” Hoffman said of his relationship with Kay. Hoffman cited his cooperation with former Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson (R-Greenville). “It was a difficult decision to try and come back and run,” Hoffman said. “I’ve always been one that stood on the floor of the House and spoke my mind, and I will continue to do that.”
Hoffman is linked to Rod Blagojevich, Illinois’ imprisoned former governor who befriended Hoffman early in their legislative days, and Hoffman was known as the then-governor’s floor leader. “I haven’t talked to him in 3½ years, ”Hoffman said of Blagojevich.
