The first official activities of the year at the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site in Hartford will be held next weekend. "Garrison Day" and "Women Come By" are events that celebrate the explorers and the women on the trip, and will be held next Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18.
"Garrison Day" will give visitors a chance to see what a typical military camp was like at the time, while Site Manager Brad Winn says "Women Come By" will include historic cooking, spinning and sewing demonstrations.
After wintering at the site, on March 30, 1804, Lewis and Clark formally enlisted the soldiers and other men who would take part in the expedition.
