Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) says a new five-year highway bill being pushed through congress will authorize and fund surface transportation programs that will benefit Illinois to the tune of $7.5-billion in federal highway funding.  He says local governments in Illinois will collectively see an average increase of $25 million per year over the life of the bill. 

Davis says the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015 is the first long-term surface transportation bill in nearly a decade.  As for what he sees IDOT spending the money on:

Davis says about 80% of the money IDOT has to spend on transportation projects comes from the federal government.  The measure passed the U.S. House of Representatives 359-65.
