The cleanup of the former Chemetco site in Hartford continues, and village officials are looking toward the day the land can be redeveloped. The former copper smelting facility sits on 41 acres near Illinois Route 3. It's been closed for 15 years.
The site was labeled a Superfund site and environmental clean-up began in 2010. Hartford Projects Manager Deanna Barnes tells The Big Z the village is hosting a meeting tonight to discuss the possible creation of a TIF District to encompass the site.

Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 6pm at Hartford Village Hall.
