Plans for a new connector road between Alton and Godfrey have apparently been squashed. The route for the so-called Alton-Godfrey Expressway was met with plenty of criticism at a public meeting last week. State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) and State Representative Dan Beiser (D-Alton) have now submitted a “no-build” request to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Haine says he has requested existing projects like a roundabout on Route 3 in Godfrey, improvements to the bike trail on the Great River Road, and the I-270 expansion get the funding that would have been used for the connector project.
