The mandatory minimum gun law has fallen apart in Springfield. Opponents used a procedure to stall the bill that proponents characterize as a “trick:” Asking for fiscal impact notes from the Department of Corrections, which the department has not yet filed. The measure would impose mandatory minimum prison sentences on repeat offenders of the crime of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, essentially carrying a weapon in public with no FOID card, and in the case of concealed weapons, without the proper permit.
