It took a Madison County jury about an hour Thursday to convict a Centreville man of first-degree murder. Scottie Thompson killed an East St. Louis man in August of 2013 and dumped his body at Horseshoe Lake Park. Thompson had only been out of prison since February, having done time for a 1989 murder in St. Clair County.
Investigators said Thompson and 20-year-old Dakota C. Jones met in East St. Louis and Thompson agreed to give Jones a ride. Police think the fatal assault occurred several hours later with Thompson eventually dumping Jones' body into the lake. Thompson is facing natural life in prison, due to his previous conviction. Sentencing will be in 6 – 8 weeks.
