A day-long sex offender compliance check last fall in Alton resulted in the arrest of 37 year old Robert Ridenour of the 1200 block of West 9th Street. At the time, the Madison County State's Attorney's office charged him with 12 counts of aggravated child pornography after authorities say they found the material on his home computer. The case was turned over to federal authorities, and he has now pleaded guilty to three federal counts.

The charges filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office of Southern Illinois are Receipt of Child Pornography, Distribution of Child Pornography, and Possession of Child Pornography. Because he has a prior conviction for aggravated criminal sexual assault involving a minor, the penalties for these new offenses increase. The first two counts carry a 15-40 year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine. Count 3 includes the same monetary fine, and a prison term of 10-20 years. Sentencing is scheduled for September 28.
