A Belleville man has pleaded guilty to his role in the death of a Granite City man last year. 32-year-old George Tillman entered the plea on Wednesday to first-degree murder and will be sentenced later this fall. He was accused of killing Roderick Taylor in December.
Tillman was arrested on December 17 following an attempted traffic stop on Route 3 by Brooklyn Police that ended in a crash at St. Clair Avenue and Collinsville Road in East St. Louis. Tillman was hospitalized following the crash and police discovered Taylor’s body in the trunk of the car. Illinois State Police assisted in the investigation and determined that Tillman and another suspect lured Taylor to a home in the 2600 block of Logan in Granite City in order to rob him. Taylor was shot several times and struck with a VCR and frying pan by the suspects and his body was placed into the trunk of Tillman’s car. Also charged in connection with the death is 27-year-old Ashley Bonner of Granite City, who lived at the home where the attack took place.
