An Alton woman will be going to prison for her role in a heroin death last summer.  28-year-old Mary Ellen Johnson, of the 800 block of Washington Avenue pleaded guilty to one count of drug-induced homicide after she was accused of giving a fatal dose of heroin to 34-year-old Michael Johnson on July 11.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In exchange for an eight-year prison term, the prosecution agreed to drop a charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.  Drug-induced homicide carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison. Johnson will have to serve at least 75 percent of her sentence.
