A man who was accused of killing an Alton man during an apparent drug deal has pleaded guilty to the murder and sentenced to prison. 40-year-old Bruce Bradley of Fairview Heights shot and killed Melvin Hayes at a vacant home in the 1000 block of Market Street in Alton two years ago.
Bradley was charged with first-degree murder after authorities say he an another man were planning to meet Hayes at the vacant home on Market Street on September 6, 2014. It was then prosecutors say Bradley, and the other defendant Antione Parker, robbed and killed Hayes. The men then fled the scene to Parker’s home in Belleville where police later found them. Parker is still awaiting trial for first-degree murder and armed robbery. Both men have previous drug-related convictions.
