Hundreds of area residents benefited from the generosity of others before and on Thanksgiving Day. Several churches held special meals for their members and for the public, while the Community Hope Center in Cottage Hills prepared and delivered more than 700 meals on Thursday.
Hundreds of volunteer cooks and drivers turned out to assist in the effort yesterday at the Community Hope Center, with others working on Wednesday to prepare for the big day. Senior Services Plus in Alton served a pre-Thanksgiving meal at its center on Wednesday to more than 200 guests who did not have plans for the holiday, or who were not going to cook for themselves. They were entertained by the Alton High School Chamber Strings group. SSP is planning a similar meal just before Christmas.
