Environmental groups are calling on area lawmakers to support the Illinois Clean Jobs Bill. The bill would increase the state’s renewable standard over the next 15 years. A number of activists are holding a rally in front of State Senator Bill Haine’s office this morning to urge Haine and State Representative Dan Beiser – both Alton Democrats – to support the bill.
Specifically, the bill would require 35 percent of energy consumed in Illinois to be generated by clean renewable sources by 2030. The Sierra Club’s Elizabeth Scrafford says it could create thousands of new jobs statewide.
