The Junior League of Greater Alton is sponsoring an event this evening for middle school and high school girls in an effort to promote healthy eating and other positive life habits. It's called the Kids in the Kitchen Healthy Girl Expo and takes place at the Riverbender.com Community Center in downtown Alton and is free to attend. In addition to making snacks, they will also share ideas on easy exercises and other healthy lifestyle choices.
Junior League member Laura Hill is one of the organizers and says the hope is to encourage those that attend that a healthy lifestyle can be easy and fun:
Hill says they'll have a yoga instructor on hand to demonstrate some exercises, and they'll have a station where kids can learn how to make healthy snacks at home as opposed to buying something at the convenience store. And she says they'll also share information on how kids can deal with the pressure from society to fit into a certain body type. Tonight's event is from 6:00-7:30pm and is free.
