An empowerment retreat this weekend at Lake Williamson in Carlinville is teaching a handfull of area youth about health and wellness. The event was sponsored locally by the Alton based group A.C.E.S. 4 Youth, and featured talks on the topics of ethnic & gender pride, assertiveness skills training, ning & coping skills, peer education, rites of passage, sexual health, and HIV testing.
A.C.E.S. 4 Youth founder Gregory Norris says one of his main goals is to help the community "stop the violence.
A.C.E.S. stands for Area Consortium of Educational Services and looks to provide opportunities to young people to better themselves by improving their communities.
