Statistics say that average American teenager can identify hundreds of corporate logos but that they would struggle to identify four different species of trees. With that thought in mind, the Great Rivers Land Trust and Illinois Department of Natural Resources have teamed up to bring the Great Outdoor Youth Expo to the Riverbend.
The event will last from 9am until 3pm on Saturday at Piasa Harbor and will include more than 10 different activities including Frisbee golf, canoe instruction, kite making, a hot air balloon and a lock and dam display from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Deanna Pope, who created the Great Rivers Land Trust Junior Board, came up with the idea after attending a conference in the Chicago area.
The Great Rivers Youth Expo is open to all ages and is free to the public. Piasa Harbor is located at 10815 Lockhaven Road in Godfrey. For more information on the expo you contact the Great Rivers Land Trust at 467-2265
